well as explore the physical aspects of yoga, including asana (postures),

postures that are common in most practices. Each five week class will be a
review of the same material.
HATHA YOGA: Developed in India, yoga is a psycho-physical discipline with roots going back about 5,000 years. Yoga practitioners focus on the physical postures called asanas, breathing exercises called pranayama, and meditation. Benefits of yoga include improved physical fitness, mental clarity, greater self-understanding, stress control and general well-being. Spirituality is a strong underlying theme to most practices. HA means sun, THA means moon, YOGA means union. HATHA YOGA: Union of sun and moon.
ANUSARA: A new style developed by John Friend, Anusara yoga is described as heart-oriented and spiritually inspiring. Anusara is grounded in a deep knowledge of outer and inner body alignment. Each student’s various abilities and limitations are deeply respected and honored.
ASHTANGA: For those who want a serious workout, Ashtanga may be the perfect yoga. Developed by K. Pattabhi Jois, Ashtanga is physically demanding. Participants move through a series of asanas, jumping from one posture to another to build strength, flexibility and stamina.
IYENGAR: B.K.S. Iyengar is one of the best-known yoga teachers and the creator of one of the most popular forms of yoga in the world. His style of yoga is noted for great attention to detail and the precise alignment of postures.
JIVAMUKTI: This challenging class includes a vinyasa form of yoga in which students flow from one posture into the next, motivated by the breath. Postures from the Sivananda and Ashtanga traditions are also incorporated. Jivamukti is accessible to students at all levels.
SIVANANDA: Sivananda Yoga is a holistic practice that incorporates the 12 basic/intermediate asanas with variations, pranayama, relaxation, and meditation. Discover the benefits of proper breathing, increase your flexibility, strengthen your body and mind, improve concentration, learn deep relaxation, and develop greater inner body awareness.
VINIYOGA: Viniyoga is the appropriate application and adaptation of the tools of yoga to best serve the individual student. Viniyoga is distinguished by its emphasis on the movement of the spine in asana, repetition and stay in asana, the adaptation of form to serve the structural needs of the practitioner, and the use of the breath to initiate and enhance movement and to create specific energetic effects in both asana and pranayama. Viniyoga is suited to all levels of practitioners
VINYASA: FlowYoga, one of the rising forms of Hatha Yoga in the West, emerged from the roots of Krisnamacharya’s lineage of Ashtanga, Iyengar and Viniyoga, while being open and responsive to the challenges of the 21st century. Known for its dynamic, meditative and creative sequences, vinyasa (flow) yoga explores stillness within motion, strength within ease, wisdom within action. The basic principle of vinyasa is for asanas to be linked by the breath in an evolutionary flow that empowers each student to explore the full range of their potential wherever they find themselves.
